Man arrested by Harbor Patrol after allegedly boarding and burglarizing sailboat
At 11:16 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, the Newport Harbor Patrol responded to Marina Park regarding a male adult allegedly spray painting a 50’ sailboat and throwing objects into the bay.
Upon arrival, deputies contacted 43-year-old Kristoffer Mayfield, who was reportedly uncooperative and attempting to launch the vessel. The deputy radioed for assistance and when additional deputies arrived, Mayfield was detained.
An investigation revealed that the vessel did not belong to Mayfield. Mayfield was arrested for alleged burglary and is suspected of causing $50,000 in damage to the inside and outside of the vessel as estimated by the vessel’s owner.

While being transported to the Harbor Patrol Station on a vessel, Mayfield allegedly assaulted deputies causing minor injuries to both and force was reportedly used to restrain him. Upon arrival at the Harbor Patrol Station, officers with the Newport Beach Police Department assisted deputies with Mayfield’s transfer to a patrol car as he allegedly continued to be combative.
Mayfield was then transported to the Orange County Jail where he was booked for alleged Assault and Battery on a Peace Officer and Burglary.
The Newport Harbor Patrol is comprised of Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to Marine Operations in Newport Harbor.
