Suspect shatters sliding glass door in Upper Newport Beach burglary and makes off with a safe

A residential burglary took place in the Upper Newport Bay Community between 5 a.m. on April 2 and 2:30 p.m. on April 9. While the victims were away from their residence in the 2400 block of Santiago Drive, an unknown suspect accessed the backyard of the property from a neighboring home that was under construction by removing planks from the fence between the properties.

The suspect also brought a ladder onto the victims’ property and used it to climb to the roof. From the roof, the suspect accessed the second story balcony leading to the master bedroom. Then, the suspect shattered the sliding glass door leading to the master bedroom to enter the house.

Once inside, the suspect located a safe mounted to a wall and tore the safe out. The suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Reported losses included a safe, U.S. currency, handbags, jewelry and belts. There is no suspect info available at this time.
